What does selecting different input data during export do?

There is a dropdown menu that lets me select input data that is different from what I chose in my pipe. What are the use case for that?

    Pipes can be reused many times for different input data.

    For example, if you build a pipe to clean up data for a weekly generated report, you can reuse the same pipe every week by updating the input data source in the export dropdown, provided that the new input data is in the same format
